With tomorrow being the last day of April, National Autism Awareness Month is coming to a close. But before it does, we here at TheJawa.com want to remind you it's still not too late to get your blue on. From donating money to a worthy organization like Autism Speaks, to changing your Facebook profile picture to something blue to help increase awareness, every little bit helps. No effort is too little. Autism is a disorder that effects neural development. Characteristics of the disorder include impaired social interaction, lack of communication and repetitive behavior. According to the latest statistics, 1 out of every 110 children are diagnosed with Autism, making it more common than juvenile diabetes and pediatric AIDS combined. An estimated 1.5 million individuals in the U.S. are affected by the disorder and there is no cure. For more information about Autism and what you can do to help, please visit the Autism Speaks or World Autism Awareness Day web sites. |

This past weekend offered collectors and fans of the comic book and sci-fi genres two opportunities to unite and celebrate their geekdom. While C2E2 was large and in charge in Chicago, Wizard World was packing in the crowds out in Anaheim. As with most pop culture conventions like this, Star Wars content was front and center. From artists to vendors to local costuming groups, if it dealt with The Saga, it was on display in the shadow of the Magic Kingdom for all to enjoy. A big Jawa thanks goes out to old friend odiewan for his thorough coverage complete with panel reports and photos from every corner of the convention center! |
Among the items of interest to break out of C2E2 in Chicago this past weekend is the news that the Star Wars saga will finally be making its way to the Blu-ray format. Steve Sansweet, Director of Fan Relations and collector of all cool things made the announcement during the Star Wars presentation. While he didn't let slip too many details, he did reveal that they have been working on the project for "a couple of years" and that all six movies, along with "lots of extra materials" will be part of the set. While no official release date has been set yet, the "word on the street" says expect it to hit the shelves in time for Christmas 2011. |
Over the years, George Lucas has often acknowledged the influence of Akira Kurosawa's films on his own Star Wars saga, Kurosawa's 1958 film "The Hidden Fortress" contains a lot of techniques, visuals and storytelling techniques that Lucas would go on to use in "Star Wars: A New Hope". An artist by the name of Sillof, who is famous for his highly detailed custom figures and dioramas, decided to take it upon himself to blur the line between the two movies a bit further by creating a series of Star Wars figures done in the style of Kurosawa's films. From R2-D2 to Darth Vader, the entire cast of the film has been re-imagined as samauri, ronin, and even an Oni demon. He even managed to sneak in a certain bounty hunter turned ninja. |
In our continuing effort to bring you the best gatherings and events from all four corners of the galaxy, the Jawa staff is proud to present to you our coverage of the 2010 Boston Comic Con. Held this past weekend on the scenic Boston waterfront, the convention brought together vendors, artists and fans of the comic book scene. If you were not able to make it to the convention, feel free to check out our in-depth review of the 2-day event, complete with photos. Know of a convention or event that you would like to see us cover? Just let us know the details and we'll do our best to cover it from start to finish. |
A long time ago...well, you know the rest, we brought you the story of a novel little project called "Star Wars Uncut". The premise was simple. The movie "A New Hope" (the "original" Star Wars movie to the average movie goer) was cut up into 15-second clips. Fans then were given the opportunity to choose one of the clips and reshoot it in any style they wanted. Then the organizers of the project took all of the submitted clips and pieced them together to reform the full-length movie. Well it seems as if the movie is finally complete because word has come out that the movie is scheduled for it's world premier...in Copenhagen, Denmark. Can't make it to the premier? A five-minute clip of the finished movie has already been posted on the internet (see below) and I'm sure at some point the full-length movie will be as well. |

April is upon us once again. The piles of snow and ice have finally melted away to reveal plants and lawns ready to spring to life. Also being revealed is the latest round of answers from the folks at Hasbro. Springing your way this month are the answers to such questions as is there any chance Anakin Skywalker will get the vintage line treatment? How about using all of those Build-A-Droid parts to stock an all new Droid Factory playset? Want the answers? Only one way to get 'em! Make sure you head on into the forums ASAP. Is there a question you've been wanting to ask the Hasbro Q & A Team? Well now's the time! Simply log-in to the forums and post your question TODAY. |

Following through on our commitment to bring you the latest in Star Wars news and events, we offer you coverage of the recent Edmonton Collectible Toy and Comic Show. Long-time friend and fellow board member Chris "Beanie" Wilkins happened to find himself within driving distance of the show this year and decided to not only pay it a visit, but file a report on the show complete with pictures. Which Star Wars celebrity served as a special guest? What kind of Star Wars collectibles were available at the dealers tables? Did Beanie sell his plane ticket home for a must-have vintage collectible? For the answers to these and any questions you may have, be sure to check out his full report. |
For those fans who wanted to attend Celebration 5 in Orlando this coming August in style, you'll have to make other plans. According to the Official Site, both the Jedi Knight and Jedi Master VIP packages for the four-day convention are officially sold out. The packages, which offered tickets, lanyards, souvenirs, concierges and exclusive access to a lounge were limited in number. But before you go canceling your flight or hotel accommodations, fear not. One- and four-day passes for both adults and children are still readily available. |
