2009 Super MegaFest Show Boston, MA November 21st and 22nd:

The weekend before Thanksgiving means one thing to collectors and pop culture fans here in the Boston Area, The annual Super Megafest show is back and open for business.

Even with the unseasonably warm and beautiful weather that descended on the area this past weekend, fans of all ages and types converged on the Sheraton Hotel in Framingham MA for two full days of treasure hunting, autograph-seeking and question and answer sessions with many of the celebrities in attendance.

This year autograph seekers were rewarded with a small yet respectable array of actors, musicians and artists. Featured guests included Brent Spiner from Star Trek: The Next Generation, James Marsters from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Smallville, and Ray Park from The Phantom Menace. Other celebrities signing autographs included Gerald Home from Return of the Jedi, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork from The Monkees and Lindsay Wagner and Richard Anderson from The Bionic Woman.

Also making appearances this weekend were some of the Star Wars fan groups from the New England area. As always, leading the invasion were the nicest bad guys in the galaxy, the 501st New England Garrison. The men (and women) in armor were out in full force once again collecting donations for charity. Also on the scene to raise some much needed funds for deserving charities were a pair of Fan Force groups. The Massachusetts group was once again pounding the convention hall floors to sell raffle tickets for their annual baskets full of Star Wars goodies to help raise money for my favorite charity, Autism Speaks. Making their 1st organized appearance at the convention, the Manchester, NH group also was selling tickets for some gift baskets of their own to help fund the Make a Wish Foundation. All three of these groups seemed to be benefitting from the numerous charitable fans in attendance.

While the dealer area was definitely smaller than in years past, no doubt due to the slumping economy, there were still plenty of deals to be had. Whether your interest of choice was vintage toys, artwork, movies or music, there were definitely enough vendors to whet your collecting appetite. This year's show even offered up a pair of after-hours concerts Saturday night. While Peter Tork and his band were entertaining concert goers in one ballroom, James Marsters and his band were rocking away in another.

Even though this year's show didn't quite measure up to some shows in the recent past, there were still plenty to see and do. While there were too few true 'celebrities' and far too many 'adult models' for a family friendly show in my opinion, every one both young and young-at-heart seemed to genuinely enjoy themselves the entire weekend. And with that I wrap up my report from this year's event. Once again I had a blast, caught up with some old friends, made a couple of new ones and managed to walk away with a deal that I just couldn't say no to. So until the next time, this is DarthWormie reminding you that United We Find!
