Edmonton Collectible
Toy and Comic Show
March 28th 2010.
REPORT:
While visiting my girlfriend
last weekend in Canada I talked her into going to the Edmonton Collectible Toy
and Comic Show with me, so I put on my Sandtroopers shirt and we both headed
off to the show. The show took place at the Shaw Conference Center, a quite
large venue that offered an ample amount of space for the many dealers tables at
this show.
As we entered the convention we
were greeted by a member of the Alberta 501st decked out in Animated
Clonetrooper armor. Standing next to him keeping an eye on security was R2-D2
who I managed to snap a picture with before heading into the dealer room.
This show had everything from
vintage 60's, 70's, 80's, toys and games to 1990's and current toys with
multitudes of comics available. Walking through the aisles of vendors I saw such
a great variety of toys, games, and comics. You name it, it was there...Star
Wars, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Masters Of The Universe, The Six Million Dollar
Man, Barbie, Alien, Superheroes, etc.. Just a fantastic amount of collectibles.
The Alberta 501st also had a
table inside, manned with an Imperial Sandtrooper who was keeping watch over
their prized possession...a life-sized Han Solo frozen in carbonite. Also
representing the Star Wars universe was Amy Allen who was there as a special
guest, signing autographs for all her fans.
The Edmonton Food Bank was on
hand accepting donations. To reward those who took the time to make a
contribution to the cause, vintage Ewoks and Droid figures, sill mint on their
original cards were being given away. As if that isn't cool enough, the figures
were hand picked from the Lucasfilm Archive by none other than Steve Sansweet
himself!
To celebrate the 30th
anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, there were some amazing collections on
display for the attendees. Included was a Kenner Canadian ESB collection of
vintage toys and figures on display from the early 80's as well as a display of
original Empire Strikes Back movie posters.
This show for me had it all. The
show had a little of everything for everyone no matter male or female and young
or old. If I happen to find myself Edmonton this time next year, I will
definitely attend the show as I am a glutton for punishment when it comes to
vintage Star Wars collectibles.
With that I wrap up my coverage
of the 2010 Edmonton Collectible Toy and Comic Show. Until next time this is
Chris "Beanie" Wilkins signing off. Untini!!
